A pretzel is a German baked pastry made from dough that is usually shaped into a knot. Nowadays, pretzels have multiple types, like Twisted Pretzel Bites or Cheesy Pretzel Twists - all of them are delicious. People usually make pretzels with flour, water, yeast, shortening and sugar. To make some pretzels, first, you need to mix water and sugar in a bowl until sugar is dissolved; add yeast. Let the mixture stand until the yeast softens and begins to form a creamy foam, about 5 minutes. Then, you whisk flour, butter, and salt together in a bowl until well mixed; add yeast mixture and stir with a fork until dough starts to cling. Turn dough onto a floured work surface and knead until smooth. Nextly, you will cut dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece between your hands into rope shapes at least the length of 18 to 20 inches long. Twist dough into desired shapes and arrange on a baking sheet; brush with egg and sprinkle coarse salt over each. Lastly, preheat the oven to 190 degrees C and bake in the preheated oven until pretzels are browned and cooked for 15 minutes. The best way to enjoy it is to use it with some German beer.
