Topic 2: Talk about the festival in Vietnam – Mid-Fall festival

Vietnam has many amazing festivals, one of which is the magical Mid-Fall Festival or “Tet Trung Thu”. The festival is also known as the Children’s Festival. Annually, the event takes place in the middle of the eighth lunar month. Nevertheless, people always prepare for it far in advance. In Vietnamese belief, the tale of the festival is the story about a man named Cuoi who hung on onto a magical banyan tree as it floated up to the moon. On the festival day, children parade lanterns in the streets to light up the way home for Cuoi. The festival is also an occasion for harvest celebration as farmers finished their crops and have time with their family. Besides lanterns, mooncakes are indispensable. Families will offer the cakes on ancestral altar before feasting them. Traditionally, family members will enjoy the cakes and watch the beauty of moon as it will be the roundest and brightest one of the year. For me, Mid-Fall festival is the one that I am always looking forward to as it represents the joy and the warmth.
