NEVER try to learn words by listing them and looking them up in a dictionary. You’ll end up learning new words with no clue as to how to use them.

Instead, commit to reading TWO sentences from your English newspaper daily and figuring out the meaning of the unfamiliar words from the sentences themselves. For example, if you read that, “Four of a family were saved from a raging fire that engulfed their home”, what do you think of the words “raging” and “engulfed”?

If you think “raging” means “out of control”, you’re right.

If you think “engulfed” means “wrapped”, you’re right again.

Learn to deduce the meaning from the sentence and you will automatically read MORE than two sentences a day because deducing is MUCH more exciting than learning by rote.
