Virtually every global issue has many ethnic, social, political and economic perspectives tied together. It is the responsibility of global citizens to understand these different perspectives, while fostering consensus to solve problems and develop common solutions. A global citizen should not choose and take sides, but instead seek ways to bring all sides together. Global citizens have a responsibility to understand the ways in which their lives are connected to the people and nations of the world. For example, they need to understand how the global environment affects themselves, where they live, and how the environmental lifestyle they choose affects the environment in other parts of the world. They need to understand how human rights abuses abroad affect their own human rights, how growing income inequality around the world affects their quality of life, the wave of immigration Globalization affects what happens in their country. An increasing number of interdisciplinary issues call for the implementation of global equity and justice standards; examples include the global increase in military spending, the unequal access of different countries to technology, the lack of consistent national policies on immigration. Global citizens have a responsibility to work together and advocate universally equitable and just solutions to these problems. So global citizens need to know global issues.
