Mai An Tiem was quick, resourceful, and hardworking, so he was loved by the king and even married his adopted daughter. The king loved An Tiem very much, so he often gave him many delicious things. But because of some misunderstandings made by the courtiers to make it difficult for Mai An Tiem, he was kicked out to a deserted island with his wife and children.

             At first things were very difficult, but fortunately, one day he saw a flock of birds flying from the West, they ate a small black seed on the ground. He thought to himself, "If this seed can be eaten by birds, then people can also eat it!". Since then Mai An Tiem planted that seed in the ground, taking care of it day by day. Soon, his garden grew green um, lush. He harvested a lot, the outer shell is dark green, the inside is bright red, succulent and even has black seeds. When eating the fruit, the fruit tastes delicious, sweet, and fragrant.One day, a couple from the wharf to the island to avoid the storm, the couple welcomed him with something other strange results. When eaten, they are admiring delicious food also changed for Mai An Tiem and gold.

           Since then sonorous fame, to the ears of the king, he came out to the island and see. When met, the two men hugged each other with joy and the same back to the mainland. He taught other people to grow fruit and named it the watermelon. From there, the story of watermelon was born

            Ngày xưa, vào thời Hùng Vương thứ 18, có chàng trai tên là Mai An Tiêm. Mai An Tiêm nhanh nhẹn, tháo vát, chăm chỉ nên được vua yêu quý, gả con gái nuôi cho. Nhà vua rất yêu quý An Tiêm nên thường ban cho ông nhiều đồ ngon. Nhưng vì một số hiểu lầm của triều thần để gây khó dễ cho Mai An Tiêm, ông đã bị đuổi ra đảo hoang cùng vợ con.

          Ban đầu mọi việc rất khó khăn, nhưng may mắn thay, một ngày nọ, anh nhìn thấy một đàn chim từ phương Tây bay đến, chúng ăn một hạt nhỏ màu đen trên mặt đất. Anh tự nghĩ: “Nếu hạt này chim ăn được thì người ta cũng ăn được!”. Từ đó Mai An Tiêm chăm sóc gieo mầm ấy xuống đất, ngày ngày chăm sóc. Chẳng mấy chốc, khu vườn của anh đã xanh um, tươi tốt, vỏ ngoài màu xanh đậm, bên trong đỏ tươi, mọng nước và có cả hạt màu đen nữa. Khi ăn quả có vị ngon, ngọt, thơm. Một ngày nọ, một cặp vợ chồng từ bến tàu ra đảo để tránh bão, hai vợ chồng đón tiếp họ bằng một kết quả khác lạ. Khi ăn, họ được chiêm ngưỡng đồ ăn ngon cũng đổi cho Mai An Tiêm và vàng.

     Từ đó tiếng tăm lừng lẫy, đến tai vua bèn ra đảo xem. Khi gặp nhau, hai người ôm nhau mừng rỡ và cùng nhau trở về đất liền. Ông đã dạy người khác trồng trái cây và đặt tên cho nó là quả dưa hấu. Từ đó, câu chuyện về quả dưa hấu ra đời
