Temple of Literature (Temple of Literature) was built in 1070 Ly Thanh Tong dynasty. Its original purpose was to honor Confucius. In 1076, the first university in Vietnam, Quoc Tu Giam (Royal Academy), was established on the campus of this temple by King Ly Nhan Tong. That is why the population has the name Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam up to now. Initially, Quoc Tu Giam was a school for the prince and children of the royal family, then expanded the following year to accommodate the best students in the country. Today, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam is one of the famous tourist destinations for both Vietnamese and foreigners. This is also a place to honor senior doctors and scholars in Vietnam. One special thing here is that there are 82 steles of doctors. These are tombstones bearing the names and origins of 1304 doctors placed on the back of stone turtles. If you come here at the beginning of the year or May, when many important exams take place, you will see a series of families and students coming to luck.
