The city of Rome was one of the first places I visited in Italy. The first thing that struck me was how ancient it was. Rome was built around a small stream, which itself carved out a valley over the years. The stream continues to flow through the heart of the city today. The ancient Romans created an aqueduct system to transport water throughout the city, which still stands today. Every street and public building is lined with statues and sculptures that date back hundreds of years. It's hard to imagine what life was like there so long ago! I spent a good deal of my time walking around the city while I was there. It's a massive place, it would be impossible to see everything in just one trip! There are so many things to do there, though: you can eat gelato for breakfast, explore ancient ruins, or visit churches and museums that have been standing for thousands of years. Although I didn't get to see as much as I wanted to on that trip, I hope to go back someday soon and stay for longer this time.
